Analysis Of The Movie Holden Caulfield - 1335 Words

When his flashback begins, Holden Caulfield has gotten kicked out of Pencey Prep School and he goes to New York early before his parents find out he had been kicked out. He wants to be like an adult but feels like everyone around him is a â€Å"phony,† because of his internal struggles that result from things like his brother Allie’s death and his interest in Jane Gallagher. Holden begins the novel when he is seventeen by saying that he is not going to tell his whole backstory, and he is just going to state what happened to him last Christmas around 1949, before he got â€Å"run-down† and was sent to what seems to be a mental institution to â€Å"take it easy† (Salinger 1). Ackley walks around the room pestering Holden by picking up personal belongings and cutting his nails all over the floor. Ward Stradlater, Holden’s roommate walks in and asks to borrow Holden’s coat. Holden goes with Stradlater to the bathroom where Stradlater asks Holden to write a composition for him while he is out on a date. Holden inquires about Stradlater s date, and is shocked to find out that it is Jane Gallagher, an old friend of his. He asks Stradlater many questions about Jane and remains occupied with the thought of her even after his roommate leaves, because he is worried about Stradlater being a â€Å"sexy bastard† (34). After dinner, Holden goes out with his friend Mal Brossard and Ackley. When they get back, Holden starts writing the composition for Stradlater. Stradlater had vaguelyShow MoreRelatedThe Catcher in the Rye by J.D Sallinger, Questions and Answers1611 Words   |  6 Pagescharacter Holden, but also helps them discover more about themselves as a person and â€Å"understand their place in the world†.
